New Bremen, Ohio-based forklift manufacturer Crown Equipment Corporation has purchased a SERVO-ROBOT WiKi-SCAN Weld Inspection System as a new addition to their Quality Assurance Program. The WiKi-SCAN provides crucial information about numerous weld features, from joint preparations and joint fit-ups to weld bead geometry. The WiKi-SCAN is intuitive and user friendly: to inspect a part, the inspector simply holds the system up to the (un)welded joint and presses the trigger to take measurements and determine if there are defects present. Results can be easily and automatically compared to tolerances set and GO/NO-GO feedback is provided. Advantages of the WiKi-SCAN are unlimited, including less redundant inspection, fewer unnecessary repairs, less inspection time, and cost savings due to reduced over-welding.

Walter Bylsma, Weld Inspector and expert in metallurgy and vision systems at Crown, is a user and advocate of the WIKi-SCAN, calling it a “profitable and supportive” tool for their welding processes. After purchasing the WiKi-SCAN, Crown was able to successfully reduce their overall inspection time and eliminate subjectivity in their weld measurements. With the WiKi-SCAN’s roller encoder option, Bylsma and his team are now able to correctly “detect and record the locations and lengths of defects…for the entire lengths of [our] welds”. The WiKi-SCAN’s benefits are endless. Visit our website for more information, product demonstrations, and more.
